New boy Albert Riera dismissed any notion that he was a lucky charm during the 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Saturday.
Rafa Benitez suggested beforehand that the debutant could bring his side luck having helped beat United 3-1 on his Man City bow in 2006.
But speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv after the final whistle, Riera instead claimed that a mental toughness in the home dressing room was the key to victory.
"They scored first but we believed in ourselves and believed we could change the score," explained the 26-year-old. "We played a very good second half.
"It wasn't just luck. You can't talk about luck too much in football. We played a great match and that is why we won."
Riera has taken his old-fashioned brand of wingplay to famous stadiums throughout La Liga and the Premier League - but, according to the left-footer, Anfield is top of the Kops.
"That wasn't a surprise because I knew before I came here that these fans were the best, and I knew before that this was the best home any side could play football in," said the five-times Spain international.
"I think the supporters will win us a lot of points this season because they push us on."
Riera will also remember his debut for the kind words of Anfield stadium announcer George Sefton, who without the benefit of a replay gave him credit for Wes Brown's 26th minute OG.
Asked if he'd thought about claiming the goal, the winger seemed keen to keep Mr Sefton onside.
"I will have to watch it on TV!" he laughed.
