no big country is dumb enough to destroy themselves by starting a nuclear war.
also countrys who already participated in WWI and WWII wont start it, because they have seen it and dont want to go through the same suffering again(atleast as long as the "war" generation still exists)

small countrys with dieing dictators(who want to do something big before the death) are alot more dangerous...(and by that i mostly refer to North-Korea and Pakistan)

absolutly agree

just looking pakistan and India..they wont have any big war, cause both have nuclear weapons. Maybe little "escaramuzas", thats all , but not big war

that the paradox of having nuclear weapons..if both countries have it, noone of them is gonna use it

% of GDP of military spending, the real give away...

Considering the animal herd dynamics of nations, I have a theory the the 2011 obama mistake of "Obama defence (budget) freeze" was a direct cause for Russian aggression on Ukrainian territory (Crimea / East Ukraine)
Maybe not the main cause but a major factor facilitating Putin's soviet/russian power! resurrection dream. Simply when the (military) leader (of the world) or the "bully" (USA) leaves some space - seems weaker, then the supposed "next in line" lashes out, while the true competitor for leadership is waiting ("camping") hence China.

Historically Russia seems to be repeating itself, or more precisely repeating Stalin's plans/ideas from the 20's to create the next Soviet(or EU)-like entity, only nowdays Russia is much weaker, and it is much harder to hide the appetite for control "sphere of influence" as it its now called, so the internal propaganda in Russia (RT), is going back to its roots.... first step, like in the Holodomor -weak Ukraine ...is underway... history repeats itself, unfortunately...

I my view Putin's idea is to slowly reverse order the Russian consequences of world war one.

Check out the 1918 territory changes in reverse... (literally) it is what is happening now.
Chechenya, Georgia, Crimea... East Ukraine(Donieck-Lugansk)... Transnistria / Moldova next? :-]

I am a fan of peace, humanism and rationality. :-)

Just because I see a mistake of someone, does not imply I am against them :-o, neither I imply that Russia is "an empire of evil" - just stating some current and historical facts, and adding some thoughts on the matter, pointing out the mechanisms :-]. I am stating the obvious and sad reality, in my view ...and I am not taking any sides...

Oh really? You're a fan of peace humanism and rationality?

That's why in the last 6 months you flooded the forum with anti-russian propaganda? Do you think that we don't know about the tensions between Russia and Polska?
2015-04-11 14:04:09
anti-russian propaganda

it's not propaganda when it's true:)
2015-04-12 11:15:41
anti-russian propaganda?

LOL!

And with tention you also mean tention between Russia and all the former USSR countries if they aren't pro-Kremlin, and tention between Russia and the western world?

this man

is the president of romania, he was elected just because is german. i don't deny his value as a human but he was elected by young generation just because is german
2015-04-12 14:38:22
It's interesting.
I am not sure what you want to say with that "he was elected because he is german"-statement though. Do you think it is a bad thing that his family was german when they moved to Romania 800 years ago? Do you think everyone with german roots is a neo-nazi? Or that he works for Germany in secret and not for Romania? I think it is clear that he was elected, because he was a good major beforehand. Maybe some of the people that elected him had some positive "racial stereotyping" in their head, they will now see, what this guy brings to the table as president and if he will be able to fight the corruption as he promised or not, right?

@jasiom22 while there are parallels, I still think it is not the same situation as then, russian minorities have changed. But it is clear that there are many Russian minorities in many regions that would like to go back to Russia now too in hope of a better life. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_Russians_in_post-Soviet_states
I think while Putin will support this minorities in their struggle to come to Russia, but he will also expect those local minorities to stand up and organise first and not expand on his own unless it are regions that bring him strategic benefit or ressouces. Crimea is very expensive for him because of international reactions, so I think he has to get more back next time to make such a move.

i am not say, president is a neo-nazi, voters are...romanians hate gypsies more even than europeans do and nazi doctrine is perfect for them
