That's a pretty fucked up worldview. In my worldview, shit happens and there's no justice. By this logic it means that people in Africa deserve to get AIDS and for people in North Korea it's their own fault they live in an authoritarian state. Even if I would accept that people living in Western Europe are better people and therefore deserve a better life, there's no way that we're so much better that we deserve an average salary of at least €2000,- a month while children in Africa deserve AIDS, war, poverty and famine. The world is not a fair place and there's no justice in the laws of nature. I'm lucky to be born in the Netherlands and that's all there is to it.

This way of thinking led to the Age of Imperialism and the colonisation of Africa in the 19th century. Because Europe was more powerful, more wealthy and more advanced than other continents, European coutries were more civilized and it was their duty to spread civilization to the other continents.

I suppose this is exactly what Putin is doing in your eyes, spreading civilization to the Russian "desert" that is the Ukraine.

Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them

"Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

This way of thinking led to the Age of Imperialism and the colonisation of Africa in the 19th century. Because Europe was more powerful, more wealthy and more advanced than other continents, European coutries were more civilized and it was their duty to spread civilization to the other continents.

It was not their duty, it was their opportunity to exploit others, and they took it. The culture they spread was just the justification and a byproduct of the profit they were really aiming to make.

If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

@doru
lol, I assume it's just hypocrisy... not anything more severe...

So which countries do you doru accept as nation states? lol...
Poland, Bulgaria do they qualify as desert to be run over by socialist? civilization from the east? or are they legitimate states? in your (twisted) world view... honesty, don't bother answering... that's only irony.

"romanians became an independent and sovereign state after fighting in an independence war."
Yep, Ukrainian were not as lucky as their were, and are a bit closer to Moscow's regime(s), closer than Poland and Romania, a that is why the current "pro-russian" fighting was in Georgia i 2008 and is in Ukraine now, fortunately not in Poland and Romania.
Ukrainian War of Independence 1917-1921, Ukrainians lost their fight for independence (I wouln't call that many dead "joke or tale"), and were stigmatised for even trying (again masses murdered by) the soviet socialist/communist regime, so Ukraine only achieved their Independence fully in 1992, just like Poland and Romania did few years earlier, you can't pick and choose, or are you literally living in the past? (before 1989) longing for Ceaușescu's red star on your head...? rejecting all the historical soviet atrocities... :-] because that would be more severe.

The only rational reason I can think of (in your defence, against yourself ;-p), for your incredible bias against Ukraine and Ukrainians, is that Russians helped Romanians against the occupying Ottoman Empire in your war for independence.
The difference with Ukraine is that Russia was the oppressor and occupier like Ottomans were in Romania.
"ukraine is a russian province. they speak russian, think russian... feel russian." - so why the conflict? I honestly have not seen a dumber statement in a long time, and even if you believe that nonsense it is simply not true = false, in any real and rational discussion. Same with Belarus, which in spite of their unfortunate dictatorship is a sovereign state which borders are to be respected.

PS: And something more interesting about "nation states" and occupation by the Austro-hungarian empire.
How the long-gone Habsburg Empire is still visible in Eastern European bureaucracies today

I think we should decide if we want a German/USA colony or a Russian colony.

Don't try to act intelligent, you aren't! You keep showing that yourself by these comments.
