Onderwerp: »[New Game] How many coders are here?

Hello guys,
So i wonder and i always wondered how many programmers we can find here among the users? Don't hide now, i know there is some coders here because of all the extensions that has beed developed by the community during the years =)
It would really be interesting to get an overview on users here who work as developers. Im wondering if there is any interest here to create an community developed online game, it could start small, simple and grow with time, and its core strength would be the community. Imagine being part of this project, to develop a game that is made just like you want it to be. Do you like the idea? Please share your opinions with us.
Please consider that i love Sokker and i will always do, but in the latest years, I've always had a feeling that i could loose contact with my Swedish community which I've been knowing for years now in any minute. Did you have the same feeling? This is not about users wanting to leave this game, we want to stay and we will, but if they will pull the plug of, then i prefer to have my community on two ships instead of one, so this project is just fun to develop no matter what will happen and it will make us less dependent, the worst thing is not being involved as a user, or not knowing anything. With the new game being developed for mobile devices (Inter football manager), i find this discussion to be very important.
The only solution i could find for the users is to take matters in own hand.
There is some nice ideas to make an open source game, where users can develop their own functions for the game, and managers can use them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What we have right now
- Users with a lot of experience and knowledge from online football manager games. (We should use that)
- Graphical designer, so the design part is mostly covered, but more designers could enter later, specially 3D game designers.
- Tools to create a forum for users to discuss ideas. (If we find any interest, then i can create this forum quickly to move this discussion over).
What we need right now
- Coders
- We will need a server if there is any interest, but that would be easy to solve.
About me, 30 years old, married. I have an master degree in product design, i work with (CAD or 3D) for designing products, and (Adobe) for graphical design, digital use or print. I run my own design studio.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We could start to se if there is even 1 programmer here playing this game, please copy and answer this questions:
Example
Age: 30
Coding language skills: PHP, MySQL, Python, C++, Java.
Years of experience: 5 years education, 3 years of work.
Developed a online game before: Yes/No
Portfolio (Optional): www.mygame.com, www.mysecondgame.com
What do you like to code: I like to create databases, or i like to code apps, i like to create online services, i like to make games, i like to make mobile games, you can basically describe your job here.
Please if you know any coder in your community, please link them to this thread.
/My best regards

Mmm, an open source football manager game? That sounds interesting :)
Unfortunately a game like that will face the same problems as all other online/app games; there are (too) many games already. But maybe the open source part could make a real difference.

Portfolio (Optional): Nothing I'll post here as I've mostly worked on internal back office systems for companies.
What do you like to code: Various stuff. Used to be mostly back office, but been doing more web stuff recently.

There are a few more who can make interesting stuff. A number of managers have made things for Sokker already that can be found on the Forum Sokker International (en), (SkUnk, transfer and other tools, help programs such as SV and SO, 2 Sokker apps, etc).

Charles Hill thank you for the information, but if this ever happens, then we need those who are most interested, so i hope more coders click on this thread them selfs.
*ady* Thank you for the support,
And to the coders: BlueZero, ostulc, AndyNichols
Thank you guys for sharing your personal information here, lets see how many coders we can gather, spread the word. In the end, i can invite the most suitable for the project to our online collaboration platform (It is already created, but we need more interest right now). I will PM you guys shortly, since i guess you are interested in this project.

Developed a online game before: No, but have experience in gaming development, especially in the architecture part
What do you like to code: Anything interesting
Involvement in sokker community: sokker.worldofbarter.com - a small project for player price estimations.
Interested in: developing any interesting stuff, the most interesting IMHO - the football game engine itself, and everything related to the architecture part.
I participated in too many failed projects based on the availability and free time of several developers to be too enthusiastic. Also I don't believe in "committee" based work, I've been through this kind of projects also. Somebody needs to take responsibility from the technical part, somebody needs to be the leader (I'm talking about a software engineer here). Especially in open source. And if somebody is the leader and invests a lot of time and energy he will probably ask himself why not to do this as a business of his own rather than open source (or maybe that's just mean thinking).
I would consider a better idea to find somebody who is willing to sponsor this kind of initiative.

@Charles Hill
But maybe the open source part could make a real difference.
I doubt it will. Maybe some non-typical mechanisms would work, but I would rather think that nowadays to attract many people You need to create some simple shitty facebook/mobile game or some console/desktop fast-paced game with great graphics.

What do you like to code: definitely not frontend; definitely not anything related to mobile devices; generally some backend stuff, match engine maybe, some administration tools etc.

Thank you guys, wow we have a great group of people here already. This will turn in to something, we have a great bank of knowledge, so it could be something bigger. I develop web projects and apps right now with a team in Sweden, so having more coding contacts is always good. ( Cause some of you don't seem to be interested only in games).
Of course the open source part is just an idea, and this project hasn't even begun to enter the idea generation part of the process. Lets see what happens later,
Anyway guys, first post updated with all the programmers listed. I will send you soon invitations to a closed forum to discuss future projects and collaborations.

Coding language skills: various HTML, CSS, PHP, mysql, innodb, also a lot of graphical knowledge CorelDraw, or adobe suite. Many years of SEO and webdesign experience, worked at Google for 4 years in the search engine development team!
Years of experience: over 10 years.
Developed a online game before: No
What do you like to code: I would like to help with coding but also be part of the advertising team and SEO strategy....every game needs to drive users right?
At the moment I run my own company...(more details in private) and I could also offer a hosting server, free .com domains. The hosting would have:
Disk Space - Unlimited
Transfer / Bandwidth - Unlimited
Domains Allowed - Unlimited
MySQL Databases - Unlimited (or any other kind of databases)
Email Addresses - Unlimited
Nice to see this community is doing something constructive!
