It's a plan will get you to the top league fast, but long term won't win trophies.

Yeah agree in general old team isn't a long term strategy but can get teams up the performance curve and fanclub memperys and promotion quickly. I chose that route (with keeper training) originally after failing at the opposite - a whole team being trained pace to try to spot talented players...almost bancrupted my new team. This gave me a cost efficient mechanism for a new team to have performance - a few trainees required, small squad and live off ancient free transfers, decent enough tactics and build stadium etc.

Challenge is now that my team is at the transition point, as in reality the team is much weaker in value than it looks in numbers. *IF* I threw every penny at 39/40 yo's sold all my trainees, maybe I'd get to the prem. But wouldn't win anything...

i think its more difficult now to replace older players than it was before ....... i have a few 32 yr olds and to sell them wouldn't get me money for anywhere near how much it would cost to replace them..
Maybe other teams see that and can't afford to rebuild in the prem.... without selling your best players and rebuilding its a hard ask

I got news for you guys. I always kept my squad under 30 and yet I managed to train players, get to the Premier and stayed for a while, FA Cup semifinals, build a stadium and so on. This 'old players strategy' is just laziness. The easy way, yes. But minimum satisfaction. It's like paying for it, instead of courting :))))
I am not here to tell you what and how to do it. But, once again, if everyone would do the same this game will die.

PS: in my opinion the old players keep their skills for way too long, hence so many teams are now going for them. I hope the devs will sort this out asap. Otherwise the game will suffer.

The game is still transitioning from old training to new. So older players will be better than younger ones can be bar the mega talents. Days of 4-5 x divine players are over I feel though. But going take time for the older players to be filtered out.

I don't think so. More and more teams are going to keep the old players based on nothis argument, hard to replace them. Users will do whatever it takes to cling on to the division they are in and avoid the shock change. Teams that managed to change their generations season after season (like me and you and wdp, a few examples) will carry on doing the same. But for those who didn't it will be indeed hard and they will keep the old players until they will manage to change generation. It's not the case for U Craiova, they're all old and nothing coming from behind. But no worries, a junior from the academy will be sold for tens of millions (as you do) and he will change the dead players with some other oldies.

I dont agree with playing older players so expect you to take back the nothis argument comment... I was explaining how it was for teams with less funds or imagination.
As I have said before... it is everyone to there own...
I have always trained youth.. not always English... and my 32 yr olds I bought in the build up to this season..
I could have pushed more to win... but wheres the enjoyment in that?
For others enjoyment could be different.

Cavin probably my best ever mid would probably be 5 x divine if the seasons were the same length still…..not sure it’s going to be worth training him after this season. I like the bigger leagues but the training hasn’t been implemented properly. Speed of skill pops should have been increased to allow for the smaller seasons….imo anyway.

My post is about someone else. I did mention before you're not doing it his way, you're actually training more than me, probably. You brought up the 'hard to replace the old players'. Which is true to some level. And I explained how others are doing it before the players get old.
Once again, I'm not the one to tell the right from wrong. I only noticed one team playing the game in a different way and not in its actual spirit. Allow me not to like it.

I agree a lot on that mate , and understand why you feel that way :)

Hmm…I’ve seen a lot more random training since the new game engine came about so I’m not yet sure that will occur - especially if the devs add the extra level that they’ve been talking about for a while which would I assume effectively demote all older players 1 level below max potential?

I’m still trying to get my head around the new training system - it’s definitely more complex so offers more opportunity in some ways but feels odd that 10 players get chosen for extra. Random number…I guess the same as the old game allowed for def or mid skill trainings (2x5)

Cheers mate, was a fantastic game which I’m glad to come out on top of. The result was probably fair in the end given the chances, it’s great to see Miller in average form and it showed a huge difference tonight in his finishing.

Congrats.

I would say something about days of glory coming to an end soon, but no one likes the cup anyway ;)

You keep saying the same thing….and maybe they will. However for now I’ll just enjoy the ride. ;)
