Onderwerp: [U21] Qstarw The last World Champion

btw. Freedman is a VERY good winger for u21 level so there's no problem there

It does work that way because of lower passing and playmaking. If the crosses aren't as good, it's not going to be effective. Personally I don't think it's worth playing a winger unless their passing is at least Incredible.

Have you watched the game? I've seen first 30, winger was the only way England constructed anything, no problems with his passing choice/effect. And wingers at u21 level often choose to pass instead of crossing.

I've always used wingers in u21 (obviously not in every game) and it was always working very well. The main difference between u21 and senior is that at u21 level most teams play with 4 defenders so it's much easier for winger to get through than in senior football. At senior level most NTs use 5 defenders, sometimes 6.

Pass & pm is in the same way important for through passes as for crosses so you will have less / lower quality of those as well at u21 level.

I didn't think you were trying to create a spat. :)

I was merely answering how I see things and basing it on my previous experiences....even if they were years ago now. U21 is a tough job.

Today, the emotions have settled a bit, but they are still with me. Spain has once again advanced by sheer luck. This is the second time in the World Cup that after beating them in a direct match, they scrape through at the last moment. I need to think about whether I have the strength to start everything from scratch again. One thing is certain: I won't give up on matches until the end of the season. We must do everything to continue our joint project, whether it’s for me or the next coach.

Regarding yesterday's match and the choice of tactics, there really is no other option but to play through the wings because the strikers are simply too slow. They have speed levels of 10 and 11, and with such levels, it's impossible to play through the middle, as shown in the match against Serbia.

Hi Piotr, I hope you're feeling better today!

Taking on the job of the national manager will always be challenging and you're very much under the microscope from fellow managers, not just the English managers. You have come in for some criticism and some praise, which comes with the territory.
I personally appreciate all the effort and time you've put into the U21 side - THANK YOU. I also hope you can carry on until the season. Stay positive and get some wins. I know you've already made the decision to step down as your personal life is busy, which everyone understands!
The onus remains on all English managers to train youngsters of the future. Get them to a level where they can compete with the best. Yes, I know this is difficult given the small number of active managers. However, without this, the national side will be hindered and any new manager(s) coming in will find their hands tied and struggle!

Thanks again for all your hard work with the U21 side.

Cheers
Chuck.

Thank you. You wrote everything with real class. You're a great person.

„Regarding yesterday's match and the choice of tactics, there really is no other option but to play through the wings because the strikers are simply too slow. They have speed levels of 10 and 11”

That’s why last week I said that at u21 level it’s important to follow the training of 16-20yo players… ATT with 10 pace is close to useless at u21 WC level. Often it’s possible to influence the owners to make training better for u21 needs.

But that’s the problem with u21, to do it properly at 100% you need to spend A LOT of time on scouting, communication with owners etc. Hundreds of sk mails.

Talking about class: Spain did win against Serbia. I really don't think it was about being lucky/unlucky. You might argue that their come back in the last 5 minutes of the game against Finland was some sort of good fortune. But you can also argue that the game against England was lost although they were the better and more positive team.

I'm going back to what I said before. You might be a good manager and bursting with passion, but you show a very low level of self respect and responsibility when you start blaming everything and everyone for your failures.

Spain WAS lucky. Got through with only 1 win, with same amount of points and goal difference as Suomi. Only got through because they scored 1 goal more (and lost 1 more)
2024-07-21 13:45:01
Which bit is lucky in the way they qualified?

Isn't this how you qualify? You try to do whatver you can better than the other teams? Where's the luck in this?
(gewijzigd)

Getting through by one goal only in a group where you are the favorite is being lucky in my book.

Not undeserved, just lucky. Add to that the 85th and 87th goals in draw against Suomi and I can’t see how’s that not lucky.

By your definition there’s no such thing as good or bad luck. 20-1 in shots and 0:1 result would also not be lucky.
2024-07-21 14:00:38
Here we go, I already created a "definition" that will probably hung me in the market square. Everything that happens in football and in this game will be rinsed through my definition of being lucky/unlucky.

Luck/unluck is in everything we do. But if you look closely, there is no such thing, it all comes down to a mistake or a bit of skill. Spain scored two goals in the last 5 minutes. They also had 7 shots in that game, they could've scored those goals in the first 5 minutes. It's irrelevant they scored at the end, the fact is that they scored because they tried. How's that luck?

A team has 20 shots and doesn't score. Do you not think it's the skill that makes this happen? The other team has one shot and they score. Again, same question.
2024-07-21 14:04:21
No, 20:1 in shots and 0:1 in goals is not skill. You can have superdivine strikers in form having 1v1 situations and scoring null and then opponent without form and with lower striker skills scoring 1/1 because that’s how the game is set up.

That’s not even a theory because it was officially introduced years ago as a way to lower the goal differences in games with huge quality difference and shot difference.
The idea was to lower the number of 20:0 etc result and it worked but at the same time from time to time it works too well and effs up the score.

I'll tell you this, you're funny. First of all, I'm not making excuses for my loss, I'm just stating the fact that Spain has often stood in my way. In one championship, I beat them but got eliminated due to a lower ranking. And now I beat them again but still didn't advance. Lastly, tell me when exactly they were better in our direct match because maybe I'm just an idiot
