Onderwerp: Season 65

Klopp has been a fantastic manager for Liverpool, he will be a huge loss! Ok can have Moyes at the end of the season if you like? ;)

I'm not underating Moyes whatsoever, I think he is a great football manager. But sometimes, it takes more than that to run a big club. And I'm not throwing that 'big club' label like other fans do (see Everton). I'm talking about a club that it's spreading outside its walls, like a culture.

Klopp is over rated and so are footballers and football itself
2024-02-03 17:29:02
Yeah Klopp did a really decent job; with the ridiculous money Man City found a way to weave into the club and frankly Man Utd and Chelsea’s budgets too they were generally more on a financial par with arsenal yet he solidified the team and won meaningful trophies but also challenged repeatedly too. the main challengers on a consistent basis, and a team again. Liverpool will miss him, I expect a few years of struggles Man Utd esque coming up. So contextual struggles, struggled to make champions league. Ha

Except those throphies United won, I guess :)))

One footballer that is overrated is Scholes. When I came to England I thought you guys are saying it as a joke. The joke turned out to be that you're serious about him being some sort of Maradona. My Italian mate didn't even know who Scholes is. I tried to explain to him and then he showed me a picture of Butt and said 'oh, yes, I know him, it's this guy'.

As a neutral....Scholes was some player...

He must've been to play for United. But people need to pipe down about his world class. I've seen so many on here climbing on each other to put him on the best world 11. Like Iniesta never existed or something. Or Pirlo. Players that made Scholes anonymous in Europe when United played against their teams.

PS: this Scholes world class back page of the sun thing is just an English issue. Is the version of Effenberg world class back page in Germany. That's all. Please, spare me with youtube links or other arguments, it's embarassing, the guy is just a good player that played in a good team and he was a game changer against Derby or Sunderland. Just like Okocha was for Bolton. Very few people know about him outside UK. And that's because the sun/mail/express shite doesn't make it there and neither is MOTD. Also, because our Paul has never made a memory playing in final tournaments or European Cups. I never heard of anyone talking about 'that goal' Scholes scored in the Champions League final or something like that. I bet that even Paul himself would be embarassed to find out that people put him in a team ahead of Zidane.

Of the English mids for me it was Gerrard over Scholes and Lampard.

I didn't want to mention him for obvious reasons, but Gerrard is the only name out of them three that I could read about in the Italian papers as being the player that stood out and being wanted by the big Italian or Spanish clubs. And I swear I never heard anything similar about Scholes. Nor anyone to have heard about Scholes being the player they want for their club. Lampard would be mentioned, mostly because of the NT saga around who's the best to play, him or Gerrard. But nobody I know would've said no to Gerrard playing for their team, Juventus, Milan, Inter, Real or Barcelona. On the contrary, they wished he did.

Scholes was a class player, but he played in a great team. Gerrard didn’t but he carried the team at times. All 3 including Lamapard were great midfielders, but Gerrard had it all imo.
2024-02-03 21:57:07
Gerrard had the advantage of playing in a team that would promote his skills better. He was the player that stood out because he wasn't surrounded by big players, like Scholes or Lampard. It was easier for him to be seen when Liverpool played because he was the one that had to make the difference in every game, whether it was against Derby or Sunderland or the Champions League final or FA Cup final. He had to step up because there was no one else there with better skills than him.
But the argument about all of them and Terry, Rio etc, is collapsing soon as you talk about them outside their filled with other great players clubs. Because playing for the NT they were a disaster. Luis Suarez sent them home on his own. Without Ivanovic, Vidic, Essien, Veron around them, the players I see mentioned on here were average. Can you say the same about Maradona? Or Zidane? Or Iniesta? Or Cannavaro? Maybe. But when they played for their national teams, they showed they don't need the help of other players to be as good as they were for their clubs.
2024-02-03 22:03:54
Talking about Luis Suarez, he should be in that world squad imo. Maybe not in the first 11 but surely in the squad. I'd have him before Cristiano Ronaldo without any hesitation. The guy was more than just a striker, he was a really good footballer. He made Sturridge look like Kane and added £30mil to Sterling's value in a few weeks.
2024-02-03 22:20:01
Personally, if you don't have Maradona in your 11, I'm not even considering it. I was there when it all happened. Ok, I was a child but I remember the grown ups Lazio fans on Olimpico standing and clapping him against my team. That's how amazing the guy was. I have never seen anyone as good as him since. And I watched a lot of football.

And if he would be just as good if he'd play in today's football. Because so many times the argument falls on this sword when talking about players form older era, Pele, for example.

Maradona and Messi were from different planets for me.
