Maradona and Messi were from different planets for me.

That Italian football show was something else when all the Dutch players were strutting their stuff ;)
Loved watching Frank Rijkaard too

Baggio better than Maradona Here's my reasoning:

I used to think Maradona was best,, but he was really a two season wonder with Napoli, Baggio did a ridiculous amount more than Maradona, don't take my word for it take Pep's he played with them he picks Baggio , and people only remember Baggio missing a penalty for the world cup and rate Ronaldo more cos he missed it.

It's unreal Baggio had horrific knee injuries and must of hampered him, they say he would have been way better than anyone if his knee hadn't exploded
Maradona was another level of skills but they didn't lead to the amount of goals like Baggio's did, Baggio did Maradona & Messi dribble past the defense and round the keeper numerous times. this for me is a main reason of greatness.

It's crazy to think they both only won 2 top flight titles, Proof winning is not everything, 1 penalty cost Baggio a World cup, 1 bit of cheating got Maradona 2 WC , you see how close that is, then you factor in what Baggio did at Bologna & Brescia.

He led teams when on the pitch. He would tell other players how to play. He wasn't just a 'baller'. Barcelona judged him wrongly this way and they missed on his other abilities. Hence, they decided to let Ronaldinho play how he wanted because they didn't want to make the same mistake as they did with Maradona. By all means, when I was a child I hated the guy. My family emigrated to Italy from Uruguay ages ago and genetically I'm programmed to hate anything that's Argetinian. And as child I hated the guy. But I was overwhelmed by how good he was and growing up I started respecting him for what he did for the football and especially for the southern Italian football.
Baggio was good. And he is a nice man. But he was too much for himself, he cared little for the teams he played. But even he would blush if you told him he was better than Maradona. Even Romario, the big headed Romario, the Brazilian Romario, he didn't dare to say he is better than Maradona.

I forgot you went about with them ;)

That is because Baggio was a nicer person, Maradona a coke head which hindered his game massively, it was obvious to him so he didn't need to say it.

Maradona had more skills he was unreal yes, but his lifestyle hindered him, looked like he hated life and his game suffered in Italy
I liken Gascoigne and Ronaldinho all 3 could have been better with better lifestyles , they all know it

Every Sunday for a decade gazzetta football Italia on Ch4 seem to be the gooooal Baggio show
Although to me it sounded like they were saying gooooal Laaaazio [ which was good cos Gazza was there, Gazza on the Gazzetta]
It was the best league in the world by far back in the 80's-90's now it seems it's the 4th best league

from 1984 -1999

AC Milan [6 wins] Van Basten top scorer in 95 with 25 goals, Baggio's Juventus came 2nd he got 22 goals
Juventus [4]
Napoli [2]
Lazio [1]
Sampdoria [1] Vialli top scorer
Verona won 1985 & Torino was 2nd
Inter came 2nd twice and 3rd 5 times, Roma a 2nd,, Parma 2nd once 3rd twice in a 5 year spell

Gazza was the one of those miracle stories in my life. I didn't live in Italy at the time, but my mum was stil dragging me to church every Sunday, there where I lived. Anyway, during Italia'90 I became a big fan of Gascoigne and during prayers I was asking for one thing: Gazza coming to Lazio. I even told the priest lol. One morning, the priest came to me and said 'it's all sorted' and I had no idea what's he on about. Imagine my face later in the day when I heard that Gascoigne signed for Lazio!

Gazza's biggest regret he says , that he didn't sign for Man United and not Spurs, he even rang Alex up from Lazio asking to play for Man Utd

If we dig up those years and the Serie A, you'd be amazed how many really good players you will discover. Players that I can say without fear they were much better than lots of the players the Premier League witnessed at the same time. You got Van Basten there, you mentioned Rijkaard and Vialli. There's also Savicevic, Gullit, Voller, Brehme, Matthaus, Kilnsmann, Donadoni, Bergomi, Berti, Signori (seria A top goalscorer), Hassler, Casiraghi, Mancini, Lombardo, Zola, Ravanelli etc, etc, etc. Players that came over here towards the end of their career and changed the way football was played, brought quality and magic moments.

How could he sign for United? I already spoke to God about him hahaha.

Shame I forgot to mention something about the injuries. And the booze. I was only a child.

You forgot Batigol!!!!! Did anyone mention Fonseca?
2024-02-04 13:53:25
oh, aye, Batistuta. Caniggia too. Oi, stop it, too many Argentinins already!
2024-02-04 14:13:30
Caniggia is one of my all time faves was miles ahead of everyone when he was at Dundee

I loved him playing for Roma. He was at his worst haha

Another Argie was doing a great job though, Abel Balbo, he was a nightmare for Lazio.

Your levelling down a tad there

I think Endrick has a massive chance to be in my best ever 11 in 10+ years, the Brazilian has been best player born in 2006 every year, if you've not watched any video's of him i suggest you do, we are talking Ronaldinho, Romario, Ronaldo , he's done so much as a 16yo Won the league with Palmeries and was the player of the season, now he's 17 and off to Madrid in the summer, in what could be one of the greatest teams ever made, also seems Madrid could have the bargain buy of football history a mere 20 million

Is it a Man United thing this youtube clip watching? Is this how they buy all those useless players for a lot of money? Must've been a hell of editing on Antony's youtube clip :))))
