Onderwerp: The Tactics League Game

I think it should all be around the points awarded in normal league. 3 for win, 1 for draw. Then you'd add/deduct bonuses according to difference in rating and goals. Let's say 0.25 points.
Thames would get 3 points for the win. Then 1.5p for the goal difference. Other 2.55p deducted because of the rating difference. Total: 1.95 points.
Man Utd: 0 + 2.55 - 1.5 = 1.05p
RTS (18-0 win vs Oxford, 53.4 vs 43.9 ratings) = 3p(win) + 4.5p(goal diff) - 2.375 (rating diff) = 5.125 points.
Oxford 0 - 4.5 +2.375 = -2.125
It's only fair that teams that win get something. But not as much as the normal point system awards them.

I took your formula and added an extra point for a draw. It's also a little different because of the 10 rating max thing.

My feeling is that it's weighted a little too heavily towards winning your match. That could cause problems with someone like Thamesmead who are likely to win every game.

That's without my adjustments.
Timisoara is the one to pay attention to. Without the 10-point max rule, they jump from 27th to 6th.

Thamesmead might win every game but will always have at least 0.25*10 points deduction because of the ratings. But after all, they're winning every game, you can't just relagte them because they're too good. The minimum of 2.5 points deducted they will have to compensate but the goal difference, which is just. And even after winning against (probably) the next best team in the league, they only managed 1.95 points. If they played Swamp (the lowest rating after the first game) and let's say they'd won by 10 goals difference, they'd have 3p for the win, 2.5 for the goal diff and minus 5.25 because of the rating diff, 0.25 points in total. So, you see, that wouldn't cause any problems. Swamp would have 2.75 points in fact. Thamesmead would have to win by 21 goals diff to keep the 3 points.
lol beating Man Utd 8-0 would be some achievement, I’ve never beaten them by 8 goals. :)

It's meant to reward the result, not the win. The idea is to balance points in favour of "Who performed best with what they have".
I'm not trying to punish Thamesmead but nor do I want the table at the end to be a case of "Well these 4 teams won all their games so they're top" that's boring and not why I'm doing this. I want a situation where Thamesmead could win this, but it'll be a challenge for them.

Yep, already changed that formula. Getting closer to something fair now. I think Jensens formula that I adjusted is almost balanced. It just needs a slight tweak.

Those teams will really have to win at some huge goal diff to be top because how far their ratings are compared with the others in the league. Even if they win every game. Instead, teams that get a result against the 'paper' will get a lot of points. As per my example above, Swamp losing 10-0 against Thamesmead will still get more points than the winning team. Only because the rating diff was 21.
Thamesmead's next game is against Legia. Rating diff (week 1) was 9.8. They'd have to win 10-0 to keep the 3 points. Anything below this is going to take 0.25 points of them. My guess is they're going to win big (Legia's defence seems to be shaky) but probably 6 goals diff. It means they will only finish with 2 points.
RTS will prob score a huge number of goals again (Jotun played in 10 in week 1). The rating diff this time is 12 though. They will need 12 goals diff win if they want to keep the 3 points.
That's why I said is balanced. If your so much better than the other team, show it, score lots of goals. If you're not, get penalised. And if you're losing against the weaker team, go minus. But if you're better than the stronger team then you get a lot of bonuses.
Something like 6 Nations in the rugby league.

The only thing that I am still pondering on is this rating/goal ratio. So far, we assumed 1 rating diff=1 goal. Maybe going deeper into the season we will find out if it's a fair balance or not.
One more note: I noticed you didn't award Cycle with any points for goals for their 5-0 win (awarded) against Pogon. I think it's unfair, it's not their fault Pogon didn't line up an 11. It's bad enough there's no bonuses/deduction for the ratings.

Cycle of Bikes are 9th for a game they didn't even play in. I'd say that's actually pretty generous.
I'll have a better idea of how balanced the formula is after tonight's games.

A good idea would be 2 points for a draw away, 1 point for a draw at home, 4 points for a win away, 3 points for a win at home. (something that real football should put in place too).
Also (from rugby union again), a win at more than 3 goals diff, 1 point extra, 5+ goals extra, 2 points bonus.

There's no home or away advantage in this game so there's not much point to that.
As for the rugby union thing, that's kind of what we're already doing. It's just a more nuanced system based on the strength of the opposition.

I think this is fairly well balanced, but time will tell.
