I think this is fairly well balanced, but time will tell.

Keep an eye on how it develops.

I think what you'll see is Thamesmead rising each week. They won't get big points but they'll be getting consistent points while others are losing games.
2024-03-27 23:47:10
Could be.
Today they only received 3.30 points, mostly because they played away and they scored 5+ goals. The ratings diff took a big chunk though.
You gotta give them credit, imo. Two huge wins, 20 goals scored in two games.
Barstable scored 5.18 points. Anything can happen.
But if anyone buys into this, it should be a team that plays against Thamesmead and manages to minimise the damage. That team would get quite a lot of points even if they lose. But when they win 14-1, you can't just ignore it.

Their next game is at home, the bonus point for an away win is gone. Also, they play Rock, the goal diff might not be so high (although...). Rating diff is about 9. So, 2.25 points are wiped off. Let's say they win at 5 goals diff: they get the 3p for the win, an extra point for 5 goals scored. 2.25 are deducted. It leaves them with 1.75 points. Add the 1.25 for the goal diff. They win 3 points.
2nd place, Beer plays Forest Hill. They win 3-2. 3p for the win, 0.5p for the 3 goals scored, 0.25p for the goal diff, 0.5p for the rating diff. Total: 4.25 points.
Thamesmead goes on 10.25, Beer makes 11.25 and takes the top place.
Barstable plays away at kowal. A win with 3 goals scored would give them 4 points approx. They could go above as well.

Underdog League

Polska the only team who managed to pull off 2 results from a disadvantage. Huge win for Barstable though, overcoming a 7.7 gap to win.

I think that might be an improvement. x2 for a win, x1 for a draw. A slightly better ratio for winning but it also tightens the scores.

If this competition would be real, it would push teams to close the gap and score goals. Saying that, I should be in charge of the world football!!!

Ok, last adjustment because then it gets really complicated (already is).

I see your point about Thamesmead and I admit they're likely to score 5+ goals every game. So I reduced the bonus for 5+ goals scored to 0.5 and the 3 goals scored to 0.25. Otherwise, Thamesmead would've had a bonus point every game played. Which deserves rewarded but I reduced it to 0.5 points.

Top 10 doesn't include them anymore.

I'll feed that into Excel and see how they compare.
2024-03-28 14:54:13
It's built on your idea. Except I gave the 5-0 awarded the bonus for the goal difference. The added bonuses are 0.5 points for a draw away, 1 point for a win away, 0.25 points for 3 or more goals scored, 0.5 points for 5 or more goals scored (includes the 0.25 points for 3 goals scored).
Your idea was to give/deduct for the rating difference and goal difference. I added something to reward the teams that are winning a bit more, after all they are the winners. Any competition is created to reward those that are doing well.

I like it like this and I'm not going to add anything else. It's a good balance between those who performed outside of 'on the paper' and those who perform as per 'on the paper'. Looking at the Premier top 3 it shows that teams that outperform get the bonus that shows that they do be better than expected. It's early days but if a team like Beer keeps doing well, this point system is going to show it. On the other hand, if teams like Thamesmead keep winning at huge goal diff, it shows that they are indeed performing as per the rating diff. Anything that defies the 'expected' is punished or rewarded, depending which way it goes.
2024-03-28 15:28:24
That's the difference in positions. I need to analyse it a little but the problem I see right away is Timisoara. 42nd on my table, 11th on yours. They've lost both games by big margins.

You're right but most of their points come from the rating diff not my added calculations. In fact, from my added calcs, they get 0 points. They haven't got any points away, nor scored 3+ goals.
Now, the rating diff is huge for them, 38.5 for the two games they played (21.2 + 17.3). Their defeats should've been even heavier, maybe something like 15-0 down on both. I think the points they've got show their resilience.
Soon, they will start playing other teams closer to their markings. Even if they win, 1-0 let's say, their reward is not going to be so rich. But if they lose, they will probably achieve even less.
