Onderwerp: Match Engine changes

For those that don't read the front page
As of 4th March we are testing a new match engine. The major modifications are players sliding for a ball and launching the ball ahead to oneself.
Launch and run
When a player sees there is space to run into he may launch a ball ahead of him, to run more quickly compared to dribbling with the ball at his feet. How precisely he launches the ball depends on technique and experience.
Slides
Player may now slide for a ball moving out of his reach. His reach with sliding depends on his defending skill, and the actual effect of the slide is dependent on his defending and experience.
Junior Age
With new engine, we have set the age limit for junior matches at 19 (older players will still be trained but cannot play in matches). This is because many 20 year old players exit the junior school early in the season, so managers could still use them for at least a season before they aren't allowed to play anymore, thus increasing the number of unbalanced junior matches.
Other modifications
There was a lot of parameter tuning, related with passing, running, receiving the ball and other actions.
This is still a test version of the engine, once the season starts there may be some features changed. We also plan to fix a few reported bugs (penalties, substitutions, etc.) but this will be coded in the middle of the season as it is not a modification that may influence many matches.

very interested to see what the launch and run is like. could probably be very effective for players with high tech/pace, especially wingers receiving a ball on the sideline. will the changes take place in this week's us open cup match??
Launch and run + Slides - bad change :\
Junior Age - excellent change :)

I just don't understand this at all. Having an age limit set at 19 and the fact that older players will train but not actually play in matches I understand.
Not trying to poke fun or anything but the reasoning stated makes no sense to me at all.
And yes I think it sucks. Just my personal view.
The match engine changes seemed very interesting.

much ado about nothing...

The original reason greg stated made no sense whatsoever but you can't shift greg once he decides on something so we had to make a reason up :)
:) Ya. Well at least the rule does make sense as being a junior school with age limits of matches. LOL at a 32 year old "junior" playing in these games. Good rule, and the other match engine changes will have a bigger impact on the game. Will be fun to check out.

The reason for that was that a lot of teams kept their juniors to win more games/league :)
Why would you? It's a pointless league. Oh sure you may make an extra few thousand in profits, it barely affects supporter mood/club ranking. So people just play it because they can then? Makes no sense. No significant profits while wasting money on juniors still in the school when they can be training newer ones..
It is more about competition/kudos then profits. A lot of members dropped their junior teams because of those ppl which kept older (and mostly better) players.

when training pace or tech I did play some of my older 25 yr old to try and get a little more training for them.
However when I train striker I play a bunch of worthless crap in the midfield and defensive line.
IMO, the junior squad should have absolutely no affect on supporter mood.

i didnt really notice the 'slides' change in a u21 match i watched. i hope players slide more intelligently to defend against through balls
for the 'launch and run' it seemed pretty cool, but i hope it gets tweaked so that defenders never ever do it because that seemed like the only down side of it

Slides is dependent on Defending skill. We used a U19 line up, we may not of had anyone with enough defending skill.
Launch and run looked pretty cool
Launch and run looked pretty cool
the match i watched was poland u21 in order to see the highest skilled guys play. there are some really really good clips posted in the sokker international forum showing it happen, it looks awesome and i think definitely will block through balls sometimes
launch and run looked good. as long as it is tweaked to happen less or not at all with defenders it should be a good addition imo

the changes look really cool, as long as they dont throw off my gameplan and cause me to lose in teh champs cup tomorrow because i should win that match old engine

I like the changes also. One of my defenders made a forward pass to himself near the side line and the ball went out of bounds.
