I bought a new head coach yesterday and placed him as my head coach at 17:58 gametime. Here are his stats:

Training effectiveness:
poor [3] of stamina poor [3] of keeper
unearthly [16] of pace outstanding [12] of defender
unearthly [16] of technique magical [15] of playmaker
unearthly [16] of passing unearthly [16] of striker

My previous head coach had gotten a couple of side pops over the last couple of weeks. I had decided to upgrade my head coach because I thought I could get more side pops with a better head coach. My previous head coaches stats were:

Training effectiveness:
unearthly [16] of stamina poor [3] of keeper
unearthly [16] of pace good [7] of defender
formidable [11] of technique poor [3] of playmaker
average [5] of passing adequate [6] of striker

So, I checked my training results this morning with the new head coach. I'm training pace and I got 4 pops on pace and one negative pop in stamina. Shouldn't I have gotten more side pops?

It's not going to be immediately obvious but you will get general pops at a faster rate. I'm not an expert on this but sometimes you're talking about 1 side pop in each skill every 2 seasons vs 1 every season and a half, that kind of time frame. It depends on age and talent of course. You won't necessarily see results in the first week, it's more long term.

One thing though, you will notice the stamina training plops. I think it's a great buy for a head coach if you can afford him, and he'll pay for himself eventually imo, but that poor stamina will require you to devote at least a week a season swapping in an assistant rated 16 in stamina to keep those ratings at acceptable levels, esp if you have a squad of young pace trainees not already maxed at 11 stamina.

yeah - this is kinda what I'm dealing with for now as well. Have a great training head coach for what I need, but players with crap stamina, and said coach has crap stamina skill.

Small price to pay though, given it's inevitable you end up training stamina at least once a season, if not twice.

Ok, thank you for the reality check! I think I definitely had unrealistic expectations for these side pops.

Kinda surprising, but looking back over my training records since I upgraded to a coach with 16 stamina it looks like I actually lost stamina over the whole squad.

3 trainees with stamina in the 1-2 range gained a point each, but 4 vets with 10-11 stamina lost a point, going back over the last 12 weeks.

I didn't train stamina last offseason so maybe that has something to do with it.
