So, I'm in my 2nd season and training tech, after training pace last season (I started mid season). I plan to train tech all season - but I may flip to defender, if I get some good pops in tech.
I started by buying 20 new young players, and kept a couple from my starting roster - to train them all in Pace so I could determine who was talented and keep the most talented for MID/DEF trainees. I have 10 players I'm currently training in tech - all of which are very talented (in my estimation).
My question is simple... (I think)
After this season, does it make more sense to keep the young players I know have good talent to continue training for mid/def, or sell them to buy older players that can help me win?
I expect I'll probably have a qualifier to promote this season because the guy in the top of my league is a bot... and I'll likely win the league. But, I'm not sure I can stay competitive in "A Leauge" yet and will either lose the qualifier, or end up at the bottom for another season.
Right now I'm not making enough money to really field a strong player in every position - but started trying to fill non-training spots with old guys that have way better skills than my young trainees, but still have lowER wages than most of the mid-20s players. I know that's not a lasting strategy, as they'll start to decay... but I figure if they can get me through a couple seasons, I can slowly build better non-trained players over time.
I guess it really comes down to money. Is there a decent way to determine how much you can expect from a potential listing? If I am able to finance a whole season off a couple sales, maybe that would make sense... but I don't want to list a guy for $1 (to avoid up front commission) just to have him sell for 50k when he's more valuable than that to me :(

I can only tell you what has worked for me.
I am in the keeping your younger players and train group instead of going the transfer route.
I know I am in the minority but looking at my transfer list, I have only bought 23 players since I started playing since 2005 (half of those, 9 were at the very beginning and 8 were in 2015 when I was attempting to make it to the ML). I think you have bought more players than I have in 14 years.
I don't see a reason that you won't make it to A-league, it's sparse here and you will have better competition likewise more revenue from being in a higher league. A lot of previous users have burned out as this game doesn't have much content so don't try to get better ASAP. I slowly made my youth school better and literally use an excel spreadsheet to see how talented they are. I MID trained for all and sold them on the transfer list once the newer generation of players were better since over time, I was able to hire a better and better youth coach. I built, and have, a large war chest and then built the JerryWorld of stadiums because I was bored, hahaha.
If you don't burn out and have patience then training is quite satisfying in this game. Just remember that for some of us, it took some time to get to where we are.

I hear you on the burn-out... luckily, I'm likely to keep some interest just because I'm building my own companion app using the API endpoint. It keeps me "interested" when nothing is happening in the actual game... haha
I actually don't see my pops until first thing thursday morning (because my companion app runs at like 5am my time)... and it's the one thing that definitely wakes me up once per week.
I haven't yet invested in a Junior School or Coach... it's next-ish on my list. Right now I'm just focusing on getting enough revenue to support it. It's really tough at the beginning concerning revenue. I only got $69 (17k for tickets, 52k from sponsors) this week from a home league match that was sold out! My weekly expenses are about $83k right now (because I just bought some older players to fill non-training spots in league matches, adding about 10k to weekly wages)... to help pay for the new guys I set up my first stadium improvement, 1,000 seats on the empty sideline. Hopefully they'll fill up quickly, and I can bring in 8-10k per week to be back to breaking even.
I looked through the current A-Leagues, and it looks like to be competitive enough to stay in A, I'll need to have an average mark of about 40 in my league matches (all of the 8th ranked A-league players have at least a 40 average mark). I'm only at 33 right now :( I have a long way to go... So, I think I need to just plan on being stuck at the top of B for a while, which means not being able to support a junior school yet.
What is the difference in revenue in A? Obviously the bulk of my weekly income is the supporter revenue, which seem like takes a LONG time to accumulate supporters at only 15-25 added per week. Is there anything in A that increases the revenue, or just that you build supporters more quickly, and more fans come to the game that aren't supporters?

i lost a bunch of money as well.. great way to keep new users from sticking around!
makes the game more one dimensional.. just another stupid decision by those corrupted with power.
and kills the TL .. we already have hardly any active players .. now with this.. the TL is a joke., and no longer another cool dimension to the game.

Now it is best to keep players for at least 3 months to avoid losing too much on them.

It levels off at a fair point in a full season. I don't think it's unreasonable. (transfers)
Blue: I think the bigger problem is they are slow to improve new user experience starting out. Give guys like you a 7500 seat stadium to start, and FFS fix the way the expectations work. It was brutal what happened to you in B league.
In international forums some people along with myself are highlighting the flaws of the system. It only seems to work well for new promotee teams, and that's assuming they aren't sitting on tens of millions of dollars.

Essentially, the system punishes teams with high expectations because they are literally unable to exceed them (by much, if at all). Geston had them re-run the expectation script which basically lowers expectations for most everyone (I can only speak to ML, I saw the previous assigned values before the second run). So, for example, if it gave me "podium above expectations" and I finished third, my fans would only be 'satisfied'. Hell, I was top two most of the year and my fans were never madly in love - and last season's expectation was top half above expectations. I am almost 100% sure I could have finished 5th and the fan result would've been almost the same, since it would have only been +1 over assigned expectation. Finishing 2 levels above in this case made no difference to the fans. Even had I finished second "vice championship" it would've been similar. Only by winning the league would I have been enough expectation above normal to see my fans truly be happy.
Blue, meanwhile, your fans will be 'madly' all season since I am certain you will overachieve and your bar is literally the ground - brave fight for any points.

new teams.. and transfers of less than 50k shouldn't be taxed.. being able to use the TL was a really fun part of the game.. now it's gone. so less fun, makes it trickier to get new players to stick around. The TL market used to be a really cool part of the game. it no longer is.
