Sell him or train him?
How badly do you need the money? I say keep him, but that's mostly because I'm having trouble finding good young players at a reasonable price.
train him. You dont need the money that badly, your core infrastructure is built. this guy will probably be a USA U20 player in two seasons.
Scout him, and train him 100% attacking for a long time. Til 35, then add passing and self control to him (say 8 of each).

I don't really need the money all that much - I'm going to make the playoffs this season, maybe get an upset win, and then get drummed out. I'm happy with most of my starters, and their replacements are busily training once I sell those I don't like.
Ok, I'll keep him.

Train him up a few skill points in Defense and sell him.
Strength too. I have a theory that people searching for players put in round numbers (e.g. 10, 20) when the put in minimums. If I am close on a player, I always train up until the next round number. It seems to work quite nicely.
Get your guy from 8 up to 10.

I'd either do 30/10, or 21/10. At this point, your market for trainees may be a bit lower than it will be in a few weeks when the playoffs are over, so I'd probably shoot for 30/10 (assuming your training facility is decent)
no no no...
I'd train him a good 3 seasons. He's got talent (Q = 84) Get his defemse to 50 and his strength up to whatever you can.

We shall see for how long.

I wasn't claiming secret knowledge. I was claiming that it was a good strategy. Not as good as pulling a 17 year old like mine - now THAT was a great strategy.
Who? The 19 year old? Blows the 17 year old out of the water? You are kidding, right?
