I can't believe how much they lucked out so far. England crapped their pants, the U.S. win the group, and now they probably have the easiest route to the Semis. I know that I said that they have already exceeded my expectations and that everything else is gravy, but if they can get past Ghana then I don't see why they can't get past Uraguay. I do think Ghana is a tougher match for them. I think Ghana's team is stronger this year than four years ago, even without Essien, which amazes me. Tomorrow will be a tough one.
Thoughts?

To be honest, I don't expect them to get past Ghana. In fairness though, I didn't expect them to even come out of the groups let alone win it..
If they get past Ghana, then they will almost surely play Uruguay(Although S. Korea has it in them to surprise people) who has been one of the most underrated teams I think.
Uruguay has a solid defense and a fairly balanced attack ending with Forlan. Whereas I think the USA just got luckier in all their matches.
For what it is worth though, Uruguay does have a slight advantage on us going into tomorrow being that only 3 players have yellows while USA is at 6. So the USA may win tomorrow, but will have to be careful to not make stupid fouls.

Seriously. you don't want to face Uruguay, they are by faaar tougher than Ghana. Unluckily sometime they temperament makes them do something stupid, but they are probably one of the toughest teams to play against.
I think that US can beat Ghana, they are just fast, thats all. Need to stay focus in D and be more tuned on the offense, if you stop missing all those easy goals, you can get far.

Ghana are hurting on offense without Essien, they have scored only 2 goals both penalty kicks, the least of any team to advance and were lucky to advance from a weak group. The USA does poorly against teams with creative players, but does well against straight forward teams like Ghana have been playing. If they do all the simple things in the back and start with the same line up that beat Algeria they should be fine.
That said, beating Uruguay is probably asking too much so . . . GO SOUTH KOREA!!

not sure if I am following you- are you saying the USA got lucky to win? or just had a bit of better luck to win??
if it is the former, then I dont agree. if it is the latter, then I guess I could agree.
actually, watching the three matches, I think the US was unlucky in regards to calls the refs made.
However, against Algeria the US could/should have won that match 5-1.
And WHAT was Algeria thinking? they had to win AND make up goal differential to advance. In the last half kudos to Bradley for putting a ton of strikers into the game.
As the Ghana, I have not seen them play this Cup. I hope they do not have too much speed for us.

I still think Ghana is the better team than Uraguay and they will be harder to beat than the S. Americans. Look at that group A they came out of, France ( a laughing stock), S. Africa - not a strong team, but did have the support of the crowd to carry them. And Mexico, who are a good team, but no way better than the U.S. outside of Mexico. Uraguay just got past Mexico 1-0. I know they are getting a lot of credit for not giving up any goals, but I don't see that as being such a big feat based on who they've played. Now they've scored a weak goal which seems to be more of the S. Korean keeper having poor coverage. Let's just hope Onyewu stays on the bench and Donovan makes the most of his touches.

The USA was more lucky.*
I'm not a proponent of how the goals are scored, what matters is that they are scored. It can be the ugliest goal ever (example the goal against England).
Everything falls onto luck in these games imo.

The yellow cards are cleared, everyone starts without yellow cards in the 2nd round.

Yeah luck is the only reason why between Brazil, Germany and Italy have won 12 of the 18 world cups and only 7 teams have ever won the WC.

Lineup announced.. Howard-Bornstein-Boca-Demerit-Cherundolo-Clark-Bradley-Donovan-Dempsey-Findley-Jozy
I think we were better with Edu/Feilhaber on the field instead of Clark. I also think we did better without Findley, I haven't seen him bring any value to the field yet. Could have gone with Gomez again, or pushed Dempsey up with Jozy to bring on Benny.
Enjoy the game!

That was changed for this tournament, the yellow cards are cleared at the quarterfinals now. The idea being that no one could miss the finals this way on yellow cards. So yellows do still matter.
Clark couldn't handle the pressure at all. Somehow I agree with Bradley's decision of subbing him.
Hope that you can revert this.

GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
You are taking my words out of context about luck as well. I recognize there are skill gaps between certain teams.
Further, the cards are not cleared. That Ghana defender, Jonathan, got a yellow for his foul on Dempsey. He misses the next match if Ghana advances.

Bradley has got to go...........
In terms of Clark, how does the guy start in the England match, get subbed early and then doesn't see the field in the next two matches only to start today?
I say Bradley has to go, because he keeps finding a way to start the team off at a disadvantage almost every time they take the field. He is the worst coach!
While I thought the U.S. were outclassed even before they took the field, I am just so frustrated that this manager keeps setting them up to fail.

from what I have heard, Yellows are cleared only in Championship Match. I think that if you get a Red in Semis, you are out, but if you get second yellow, in quarters or semis you still play in finals
