And you clearly underrate Fabregas :p
2010-05-19 18:37:47
The problem with Keita and Busquets is that they manage to fail even those no risk passes ;-) especially Busqi...
2010-05-19 19:09:26
I'm not sure about Keita, but I agree on Busquets, he caused many dangerous situations, specially late in the season.

@Hells: i don't underrate Fabregas, I just don't see it as a great move for Barça. Just as I wouldn't see the point in hiring 7 Messis to field too many Messis at the same time and also have enough "spare Messis" in the bench :P Right now, I think that in no other team in the world Cesc would find such a hard competition to play as in Barcelona. And, I must insist, you just can't bring him to wait for Iniesta to get injuried. You can't convince him about it, and if you promise something else, then you'll have conflicts inside the team. But hey, is their money :P

Villa in Barca, it's confirmed from what I've heard?
2010-05-19 20:10:01
Yes, it's official by both clubs now.

I see things differently. Imo Barça could really use an extra quality player in midfield. Basically they have these 5 players for 3 spots (1 DM + 2 more advanced players): Busi, Yaya, Xavi, Iniesta, Keita. JDS and Thiago aren't quite there yet. Busi and Yaya will fight for the DM spot, although it is very unsure whether Yaya will stay. Xavi, Iniesta and Keita (who isn't up to standard for me) fight for the 2 AM positions. In my proposal Cesc would take the place of Keita.
A very common mistake is only looking at the starting squad of a team on paper. How many times does that squad actually starts a game together? Barça have so many games to play and this season they had to deal with injuries and fatigue. These factors aren't variable but they are actually a constant for any top team. F.e. Xavi played his last couple of games with an aggravating injury risking his world cup participation. Keita played in 43 games for Barça! Fabregas could have added so much more in that position for me.

Also I think Cesc woud enjoy playing for Barça and with his character he would enjoy fighting for his place in the team even more. But at the end I agree with you: you don't bring him in as a backup for Iniesta. You do however for so many other reasons.

If I were responsible for transfers in Barcelona, I would rather concentrate on the central defender though. Pique is fine, but Puyol is already losing 'it'. Milito isn't really that good, Marquez will probably leave because...well he is too weak[btw he played as DM a couple of times because of fatigue/injuries of CMs...] and Czyghrynsky...well...he is a disaster, I wonder why people don't laugh so much at him, as at Pepe when he was at his 1st season at Real.
2010-05-19 20:39:29
Guardiola said that he is not a one to immediately take a first team place, so we all gave him time to fit in.

Pique, Milito, Puyol, Chygrynskiy (Marquez, Henrique) seems fine to me ... even though it always could have been better.
2010-05-19 20:40:04
Anóther CB? Really? :p
Pique and Puyol should be first choice. Milito is actually a really good backup who is ok with that role. Chygy is 4th in line. He is young but rather low on confidence. He can still learn although there are quite a few signs that he indeed is.. a disaster. :p
Marquez is on his way out I believe. He's lost a lot of quality over the past season and regarding his age a full recovery is very unlikely.
Than there is Fontás from la Cantera who is supposed to have some talent. Muniesa could play one or two games aswell. If that doesnt do it for you: Yaya can play CB perfectly and Abidal plays on that position for France.. So another CB is really no priority imo.
2010-05-19 21:37:13
Ehm why would anyone laugh at Pepe?
2010-05-19 22:19:12
Yes, really.

Puyol isn't that good anymore. And when Alves can't play[injury/cards] then Puyol plays a rb - which is fine, but then Milito has to play the CB. Czygry is a disaster, and you simply can't improve players pace at that age, not THAT much. and he is already 24 as far as I know - that's young for you? There are better 21-22yo's in Serie A. Kjaer is 3 years younger and much better. And remember how much Barca paid for Dmytro....
Of course that there is the youth sector, but does anyone actually know how good they are? Juve has some promising youngsters as well and still I don't trust them at all.
Yes, Yaya can play a CB - and will play damn well. The problem is that then someone other than Toure will have to play DM and I'm not convinced with Busquets. And Abidal...IMHO he is overrated, but it's only my opinion. I think Maxwell is much better than him as LB.

To be honest there's no priority in Barca. But still if I were to chose a position that needs strenghtening the most - I would choose CB or LB.

@madrista
he was one of the worst defs that played at RM during his first season.

In previous season, not this one. And yes, I've seen a lot. To be fair I see at least 1 Barca/Real game + Chelsea/Manu/Arsenal + one of Polish league, usually more from each league ;-)
