A new tournament has started, the UEFA European Under-19 Championship 2010. Most of the best football nations from Europe are represented. The best 6 teams will be qualified for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2011, hosted by Colombia. So there is really a lot at stake this tournament.

The UEFA European Under-19 Championship 2010 is the ninth edition of UEFA's European Under-19 Championship since it was renamed from the original under-18 event, in 2001. France hosts this years championship and are therefore automatically qualified. Ukraine were the title holders, but failed to qualify for the final tournament.

ROAD TO THE FINAL
The UEFA European Under-19 Championship consists of three distinct stages: the qualifying round, the elite round and the final tournament.

Qualifying round
The qualifying round, played in autumn, is made up of 13 groups of four teams playing in one-venue mini-tournaments. The top two from each progress alongside the two third-placed teams with the best record against the top pair in their group.

Elite round
In the elite round, played in the spring, those 28 qualifiers compete in seven mini-tournament groups of four. The group winners then join the hosts in the finals.

Final tournament
The seven qualifiers plus the hosts are split into two groups of four who play each other once, with the top two progressing to the semi-finals. The winners of those ties contest the final.

A very bad start from the Netherlands, lost 4-1 :S Now they most likely have to win both remaining matches.

wow ..

Djuricin penalty denies Netherlands
Netherlands 0-1 Austria
Marco Djuricin's late penalty gave Andreas Heraf's side third place in Group A and meant the Netherlands finished bottom of the section.

The Netherlands didn't loose 13 matches in a row before the European Championship, but they finished last in the group :S ...
