Onderwerp: Football shame !

2010-12-10 19:23:14
very true.

After all, Lloyd loves Qatar's football heritage, and the great job FIFA do...

oh, wait...

You're probably not surprised... but I kind of like the idea about the WC in Qatar. The stadiums alone make it all worth in my opinion. They look awesome! And then my experience is that Arabians are crazy about football. Never been to Qatar though, but I've been to seven other Arabian countries and all seemed to love it. Plus the fact that it's a small country makes it much easier concerning infrastructure and people not having to move from place to place. Plus alcohol is legal in Qatar, so that part of the experience isn't ruined. I'm really positive about it!

What stadiums though?
2010-12-10 22:12:56
What footballing status?
2010-12-10 22:13:58
We might as well host an Olympics in the North Pole, while we can host a Winter Olympics in the Sahara next...

rhysyboy: Huh? What did you mean by status?

great, so we have some nice pictures an artist's made up, fact is, those stadiums could be put on paper anywhere in the world. Atm, qatar has no infrastructure or capability of hosting the WC. If they pull it off then great, it will be a pretty swish looking thing. Still wont be an atmosphere or any aspect of qatar that will stamp onto it. We dont have a clue whats going to happen and its a massive gamble by fifa to send it there, especially now they're having to consider moving it to january.

So basically you're saying, even if a country has 12 years left to prepare for a WC, the decision should be made on the things that are existing already.

Then let's see:
England is in a recession right now and its people can't even afford the tickets to fill the stadiums for the PL games (as you said). Well, I'm glad the WC isn't going to be there in 2022!
Empty and run down stadiums because there's no money to keep them in shape and no money for the people to buy tickets. What a shitty WC it would be ...

I'm glad the WC isn't going to be there in 2022!

I thought they were going for 2018 ;)

Naah, but seriously, this is a petty argument, stop it. :)
2010-12-11 09:43:59
thats crap and you know it, half the seats at the WC go to corporate people anyway. Did you see the SA WC? We were in bigger trouble then and who had the most fans there? Oh, that would be us.

Whats the point in having a selection process based on risk and infrastructure if you're just going to give it to the worst bid (worst as said by fifa) because they have the most money and have pretty pictures.

You have no argument and im clearly right
2010-12-11 12:51:27
Too bad you couldn't spot the irony.

But where's the risk in Qatar?
We know they got the money and few political barriers AND 12(!) years to prepare. Why shouldn't that work out?

I'm not arguing for the selection process, but I don't doubt that Qatar will do fine.

The only notable football thing I can recall Qatar doing is that I think Roberto Carlos and Fernando Hierro played a season there.

@Calem: Football history, heritage.
2010-12-11 16:34:23
Is that a demand to host a World Cup? How much footballing heritage did the US have prior to the WC in 1994? Or South Korea and Japan in 2002? Or South Africa this year? I believe FIFA chose these hosts to help improving football in these regions and to state that it is a World Cup and not just a South American-European Cup.
2010-12-12 01:56:55
well... would be a shame for them getting beaten on the 1st round... for that, they have to prepare reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal good... they have time tough... *wondering if some day ecuador could host a WC*.. xD
2010-12-12 02:05:56
the risk is that they dont have anything at all, they havent shown themselves to be competent in any way to be deserving hosts. They have money, so what? No amount of money could turn susan boyle into a stunner
2010-12-12 13:40:28
I disagree, a lot of plastic surgery and voila :)
