Llama texted me, he is without internet for 3 days, so while the lineup was set he said he never put in the orders, thus no subs, thus no coverage for the red card taken in the 15th minute which left a huge hole in our back line.
USA is out of the next World Cup. Llama will comment when he get service.

yeah that red card hurt. Not being able to bring someone into the backfield left a gap that gave them plenty of goals there.
The overload on the right side worked and got them 2 red cards but without being able to set orders it was just not gonna happen for us.
Not a game we expected to win but I'm happy being the team with the smallest loss against them in the division.

And yet they only had 9 players for over half the match anyways and still shit all over. GG

there is a clear skill level difference between the 2 teams and I think the result was expected. Had I been able to set orders I'd say the final score would be 4-2 or 5-2

Not covering your central defenders against teams like Poland is pure suicide.
About the tactic - I think it worked out well though with a def mid I think you would have had a bigger chance of not losing.There was a huge hole between the defense and midfield which was caused by the late start of the defenders at times.Also the def mid would have turned out to be quite useful for covering the red card in your defense.The rest worked out as planned - the overload on the right side was quite successful.

yeah looking at the tactic now you were right about the defensive midfielders. I guess I was thinking the ball wouldn't be there as often as it was.
As for the red card that just came from a lack of internet. I had set the lineup and everything and was going to cover the orders on thursday or friday but no internet killed me and I just hoped we didn't get an early red card lolol. too bad we did :(
I like the overload on the side though. I think if it can work that well on poland then it definitely can have a good effect on other national teams. Something I will add to the playbook

Lets be honest now. Even with the perfect tactic USA would not stand a slightest chance against Poland. You need about 50% luck in this game.
Well the 2 red cards were the 50% luck.And you have to admit the tactic was quite good.Only if there was one def mid and if the central defenders were covered I think the score might have been different.

This was an expected result, our cup hope simply came down to a very beatable Argentina and we did execute :(
yep the first game cost us big time.
I almost made a comeback with the 2nd game but playing with 9 men and missing as many shots as we did 2-1 was all we could muster. Could have definitely swayed the goal differential back though had we put more of those away.
That being said, Argentina beat netherlands so pretty much we had to beat them or at least tie them to have a chance.
Looking back now, I must say I was much more intimidated at the beginning than I am now. There was actually a much better chance for us to get through than I originally thought and I'm slightly disappointed in our 3rd place finish in the group. While we did finish higher than expected, there was still room for more and for that I apologize.
I'd like to give a big thank you to mario for discussing tactics before the poland and netherlands game. His advice was very helpful and I will admit he was right about needing def mids in the poland game. I thought the ball would maybe be on their turf a little more but it wasn't so our defense never really got the chance to sit back and charge up enough. Defensive mids would have helped change that game.
I'd also like to thank fla for the bits of help here and there throughout my season and a quarter as NT coach as well as starting this topic when my internet was down to give you guys a heads up. Dag was also a big help early on answering any questions I had and really providing me with the best player picking decisions for each game.
Lastly I'd like to thank everybody who voted me to be coach again and has supported me. I'm sorry I couldn't bring home the trophy this season but I will still spend hours diligently creating tactics and studying opposing teams to try and bring us back up in the rankings.
Having such active forums (whether it's to praise me or complain about me) has been a lot of fun and I'm glad to see such care for the NT.
