The United States

vs.

Israel

#41

The USA U21's travel to Israel in the first match under their new manager. Led by midfield dynamo Antoine Winslow, the Americans will be looking to start the new season on a winning note.

At stake tomorrow is more than just pride as the US currently sit outside of the top 32 and will face a difficult draw for the next round of World Cup qualifying if they cannot use these opportunities against evenly matched opponents to win and climb the rankings.

Of course the similarly ranked Israelis have the same goal in mind and will be doing all they can to secure victory. One to watch in particular is the 20yr old wonderkid Shay Marca who has already secured 24 caps and 8 goals for his national side.

Nice win Uriah. Good close game.

Couple of observations I will say in public, anything else I will reserve for the forum or private.

1. I was very concerned when you started with a lone striker. If you look at the 38th and 51st minutes you will see evidence that he was hung out to dry being alone. I am not sure of the shot distribution after you brough Bottoms on, but clearly that made a HUGE difference. We have some issues up top, Watson is a good player but I am not sure, and the evidence was there, he is a sole target.

2. You used ALL your subs before the 60th minute. While tactically it makes sense, it is too soon to use all of them. If the keeper got hurt in the 75th minute you would have been stuck.

I cannot say much about the tactic, other then the scare in the first few minutes Israel did not look too threatening and it was strong formation.

For your first NT match, well done. Congrats.

Once, Bottoms came on, I knew he was going to score. Good win!

Thanks fla, good points, I'll address point 1 in the private forum.

On point 2, it's a fair consideration, but in 10 seasons of club play I've experienced 1 keeper injury, I don't want to limit myself to 2 subs on that slim chance.

Now whether or not I'll make 3 subs in the future will depend on the stamina of the starters mostly as I feel having a 4 or 5 stamina player playing the last 20 minutes like he's wearing cement on his feet instead of proper soccer shoes is just as dangerous as the chance of playing with 10 men.

A follow up on that in private.
