I am curious anyone have a player who has never been low in form (say anything below excellent)? Or the opposite, never anything really good?

Reason I ask, I bought a player on 6-29-11 (he was 20 or 21 at time), he has never been above good form (and that was right when I first purchased him), and for the past 12 weeks never above weak, the last 4 of which has been tragic. He is playing, training and is healthy. A bit frustrating, but since I am not competitive nor in any real danger of relegation, I do not care...yet. Very talented player, but basically is SK saying this guy will never have a good game -- all skill no talent?

On the other hand I purchased a 33 year old player 5 weeks ago in tragic from, 5 weeks later he is in excellent.

My keeper was below average (mostly on tragic or hopeless) for the first 34 weeks after I bought him. Then his form moved up from unsatisfactory to outstanding in 4 weeks and has stayed there or above for the last 31 weeks.

Other players dropped to tragic, but improved back up to divine within weeks.

I still believe that there are cycles (I hate to think that form determination is random), but apparently the cycles are different from player to player.

Well you probably remember Barlow right fla? Got this great prospect from my youth school, switched my whole training system to accommodate him and then watched him spend pretty much both years from 20 to 21 with terrible form.

I tried everything I could think of or had read about on the forums. Played him in league only. Played him in friendlies only. Played him in both. Put him in different positions, gave him different orders, nothing worked.

The last couple years no real problem with his form but that long low stretch caused him to miss out on the U21 world cup and most of the important games at that level.

But generally speaking most of the players I give regular first team minutes to, in positions that suit them, stay at reasonably healthy form levels. I have had some players who almost never drop below 14 and some who spend long stretches fighting to get above 8, but the norm on my team is they maintain fairly high form with regular burn. 9 of my current 11 starters are at 10 or more, half are over 14.

I do remember Barlow, very well. And yes, like you most of my first teamers are high form. It is now to the point I may actually have to play that lesser skilled 33 year old over him in league matches. Their values are almot identical but the difference in skills is 2 levels on defense and 3 on playmaking. But 10 levels of form... oh well. Thank you both for your shared misery. Just glad I am not in a push for my league.

just my opinion/observation-
there seem to be three form scenarios
1- players who have high form and rarely go below brilliant
2- players who go from high form to low form and back up to high form
3- players who are just the opposite of player type 1- have generally low form
and never get above solid form.

I seem to have all three types now. My starting Attacker pretty much keeps Divine/ Super Divine form all the time.
I have some Striker trainees who have been in "stuck" at adequate to very good form for a couple of season.
I have others on my time that seem to go in a cycle.

I dont think there is anything you can do to alter the Type 3 guys, except avoid them.

I agree Dennis. I had a player that did not get above 8 or 9 for almost 3 years.
Tried everything, but finally gave up and sold him!

That's why it's very risky to buy tragic form players, you can get a bargain but you might be stuck with a player who will never play as well as he should.

I can't recall actually having a problematic player with regards to form. At least none that were any good in the first place...
