Onderwerp: Crappy juniors?

2007-05-02 17:26:16
robfol [del] naar Iedereen
is it just me or did anyone only get crap juniors last 7 weeks?

i literally got nothing...

maybe the devs tweaked the junior parameters?
2007-05-02 17:39:00
what, they got worse?
i scrapped my YS because its players produced only one pop in about 1.5 season (with vg coach).
2007-05-02 17:49:10
guys, it's random.
2007-05-02 17:58:48
i know it's random. problem is, i kept getting the bad end of gaussian curve. now it's totally deterministic, but at least i have some extra $
2007-05-02 17:59:27
how many slots are you opening up per week? I have no problems with crappy juniors.
2007-05-02 18:04:09
i always had 6 available slots. it's not that juniors weren't coming - they were, but they all sucked. as i said, i saw one pop in about season and a half.

edit: so i sent them all home, fired the coach and closed the school. feels much better now.

For what it is worth, I haven't gotten a particularly impressive YS entry in weeks. I'm probably going to move my magical YS coach to be an assistant after this week, when my last STUD YS pull (brilliant when he comes out tomorrow) graduates.
2007-05-02 18:08:14
Well these were the three that came in for me this past week:
Rip Lawless adequate 25 Reject
Ernest Rife average 29 Reject
Ash Hopewell good 29 Reject

I've been keeping a spreadsheet, and I feel it just isn't worth it for new teams to have junior schools. Definitely wait until you advance a division or 2, and have enough money to cover the expenses.
2007-05-02 18:15:32
I know. I had a very good coach, which is nothing to brag about, but he and his pupils cost me about the same as the rest of the club.
I will definitely try again once I sell my first batch of trainees, if I am still around.

Yea, I haven't gotten a single junior in my school all season.

Literally, For the first few weeks, I didnt even get anyone even though 5 spots were open. More recently I got a few, but all unsatisfactory or poor.
2007-05-02 18:25:05
I completely disagree. How completely, you have no idea. My current center defender was one of my very first YS entrants. He came out as a 20 year old with 4 week talent. He was incredible. He will start for me for 3 more seasons, and is on the US NT.

The YS is (IMO) about the most important thing you can invest in.

jon, to be fair, you've been extremely lucky with your doody-cakes boy and a few others you've pulled with 4-5 talent.

Outside the murdered one, i've really only had 1-2 valuable players come out. At this point there's no question in my mind that i've lost money overall on my junior squad if i had invested that same money in better trainees or appropriately-timed arena expansion (possibly even lost money versus just holding it in the account).

However, with wallace, i'm sure it would have been different, so i'm still a supporter of juniors. And i think i've had VERY bad luck (due to my indiscretion with Max which pointed the anti-button at me - my fault).
2007-05-02 18:35:07
You can't ignore Wallace. If he'd been on your team, you'd have an extra $4m profit. You have to figure that the random pulls will be that way for other teams, too.

Now that you are an Admin, can't you get Max to point his anti-button somewhere else?
2007-05-02 18:39:15
Nobody is questioning the importance of investing in YS, because in a (very) long run it should be a good investment. What is being questioned is investing in YS from start, when a not-so-good YS costs an arm and leg. You got lucky, I got screwed. A generalization based on either case isn't worth much.

Great One has forviven me, after appropriate beseechment and prayer in the direction of Warsaw.
