Hi guys. There is a possibility that during next vacation I will have an opportunity to take part in an apprenticeship as a translator in United Nations Organization headquarters in New York. It would be a great thing to add in the CV, even though it's an unpaid apprenticeship.
My question is, how much does it cost to live in NY for a month, including accomodation[nothing fance though ;)]?
I would love to see New York and live there for some time, so it would be a great opportunity for me, although I'm not sure whether I will be able to gather enough money...:)

i'm not sure about your espectations, but NY is awfully expensive, even for somebody from Europe with a favorable euro-dollar change.
I've not idea what to suggest about accomodation, as i never lived in NY, i used to go there once or twice a month when i lived in Connecticut,

Yeah, that's what I'm expecting. This is the reason why I'm asking, because I would like to know if I will be able to save enough money to live in NY for 2 months, and that includes also the plane tickets...
I know that it would cost a lot, but it would be a great experience for me and it would be a great addition to the CV, my future potential employers could get interested if they would see that I had such an apprenticeship :)

Freaking expensive. Depends on where you wanna stay and where your work would be.
Look in Craigslist, under rooms/share. Yo can get an idea of the how much a room costs.

Thanks a lot! Really helpful site :)
As for the place, from what I know, or rather guess, it would be this:
click - the building with 'B' mark.
There is still some time to age, but I would like to get some info already, that's why I'm asking :)

It is in Manhattan, you are screwed!
housing maps is a good map app that gives you a rough idea of the price of a room depending on the location. It somehow searches in Craigslist, but it doesn't have the latest info.
Good to have a rough idea of where to go depending on your budget, then look directly in craigslist filtering by neighbourhood.

Yeah, that's what I was expecting when I was central park near it...:p
Anyway...now I know that I need at least 2x 1600$ + $ for tickets + $ for living. Going to be pretty expensive, no doubt about that :p I guess I need to give myself one more year then and start saving money. Or possibly take a students loan - these things are cool, you have to start paying back 2 years after you finish your studies and the loan rate is only about 2%...so I can go to NY and start the payback 3 or 4 years later and spread it for quite some time :)
Thanks again, it was really helpful! :)

One of Polish sokker users, who is living in Chicago, suggested to me that I could send mails to Polish parishes in NY, they could help me find a cheap place to stay among the congregation members...sounds interesting, that would cut the $ spent a lot :P
