you don't need to be god to evaluate what a professional is worth on the market. it's actually a simple math exercise and about dollars and cents.
on the top of that, i myself was just quoting big phil, who commented zidane's value when the purchase was completed just like me: no athlete is worth that amount of money. i just happen to agree with him.

that's exactly not that kind of reasoning. to evaluate that, an economist/recruiter needs to take into account a bunch of parameters, including trademarks, risks, available stock, etc...
not sure why you take florentino's words in such high regards, but facts are:
1- florentino's philosophy did not seem to work very well after 3 years of the galacticos
2- i bet he would never say hiring zidane was not a good deal even if it wasn't so his take here is, at least, unbiased.
therefore, between his words and the so called economy science, i would prefer to pick for the second at the moment if you don't mind.

dude, call me over demanding, but, in my opinion, wining champions and intercontinental just once, after investing all the money he did, was not enough to consider it a feasible investment. i am sure that madrid supporters expect more than that at this time.
when he says zidane was the cheapest player madrid ever bought, he's obviously exagerating, and probably not only talking about titles, cups or tickets. you know, old "marketing" shows up its face again.
as i said a page ago: show me the results (numbers) and i will shut up but i do not think the first version of galacticos was a good investment. (maybe that's why i'm writing words to a sokker forum instead of getting my millions at a football club)

I have to say that you are right on this one rac2, you clearly show some arguments that are backed up with facts, while Bilarnotti can only say that 'you don't understand the message if you do not know what economic means'.
